About Us
Pack 23 Cub Scouts continues to offer young people responsible fun and adventure; instill lifetime values, and develop ethical character as expressed in the Scout Oath and Law; train young people in citizenship, service, and leadership; and serve the Bethlehem community with our quality, values-based program.
The Pack
Pack 23 is comprised of approximately 50 scouts. The Pack meets monthly and for special activities. Pack Meetings are generally held from 7:00pm to 8:00pm in the School Cafeteria. The meeting gives the boys a chance to demonstrate and or work on skills and receive awards they’ve earned. Although we don’t expect every boy to attend every function, we encourage him to be as active as he (and his parent/adult partner) wants to be. The entire family is welcomed and encouraged to attend the meetings and activities.
Dens
Groups of approximately 4 to 10 boys meet together as a Den. Each den is led by a Den Leader and is assisted by parents. Dens are organized by age groups.
Advancement
Cub Scouts follow a program outlined in the scout handbook designed for each grade level. As each task is accomplished, the adult partner, or scout leader will sign off the item in the scout’s handbook. Upon completion of all basic requirements, the scout will be awarded a patch symbolizing his achievement. Generally, each sport or academic subject has two levels of involvement. At the first level, a scout learns about the activity then takes part in the sport or academic subject in practice or play. Once he has done these two steps of learning and participating, he is awarded the Academics or Sports belt loop. At the second level, a scout may continue with extensive participation in the activity and earn an Academics or Sports pin.
Volunteer Committees
Pack 23 has a number of Committees which consist of parent volunteers who manage specific programs. Cub Scout Packs don’t exist without volunteers! Parent Responsibilities
Parents or adult partners agree to support their scout in the following ways:
- Assist him in attending Den meeting and Pack activities;
- Work with him to complete achievements for his rank award;
- Support his Den Leader as needed;
- Agree to volunteer in Den and/or Pack activities as called upon;
- Provide input to the Den Leader or Pack leadership.
Blue & Gold Banquet
Pack 23 hosts a Blue & Gold Banquet in May as a celebration of achievements earned over the year.
Fundraising
Each Fall, the boys of Pack 23 participate in annual fund raising by selling Trails End Gourmet Popcorn. Funds raised from this activity go to defray Pack program expenses. This is the only fundraiser Pack 23 participates in.
